WUNYA NGULUM

THE AGENDA
Writing queer speculative fiction, illustrating werewolves, fantasy maps, and other concept art, streaming games on Twitch, and video editing.
WRITING PROJECTS
Steel the Wolf: A transgender blacksmith in a medieval fantasy setting, afflicted with a werewolf curse, teams up with a witch to get revenge on those who wronged them.
Honey Dogs: An Australian gothic story about Charlee, a queer Aboriginal postal courier and apiarist, set in a post-apocalyptic rural Queensland.
SUPPORT ME
Wunya ngulum "WUN-YA NU-LUM" means welcome everyone in Gubbi Gubbi language.
Ironbark Echoes acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Owners and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
WHOMST?
Celeste is an Australian Indigenous artist and speculative fiction writer. She is a queer, disabled, anarchist and her work focuses on environmentalist, anti-colonialist, and feminist themes.
Celeste enjoys gaming, drawing, gardening, and going on bushwalks. Her favourite video games include Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Hollow Knight, Spyro, and the Witcher series.
She feels most at home when immersed in nature and spending time on Country. She grew up on Gubbi Gubbi Country by the sea, and now lives on Gangulu Country in Central Queensland with her wife and her tabby cat Ursula.

Ironbark Echoes
Ironbark Echoes is 100% owned and managed by Celeste (known mostly online as Prokyon). This is where she conducts the business side of things (commissions, writing, store).
The name Ironbark Echoes is personally and culturally significant to her. Ironbark trees are everywhere in the sclerophyll forests that she's familiar with. Ironbarks are fire-resistant and do not shed their bark annually like other eucalyptus species; instead, it accumulates in a thick, tough texture, showing signs of wear and damage.
They have a hard, dense wood that makes them extremely durable and reliable. Bark which began soft hardens to protect the rest of the tree, providing cover for new growth and habitat for native insects and other wildlife.
Echoes of what was (pre-colonial remnant vegetation, distinct from the rest of the landscape) and what is (bird calls in the trees, alive and loud) form a consistent through-line for Celeste to picture the history of her mob's Country. Remnant forests and nesting birds are a sign of the carefully-cultivated world that Aboriginal people will always be part of and care for.
"We're not gone, and we're not going anywhere" is the resounding feeling that Celeste feels when walking through dry woodlands, plains, and rain forests. Even degraded farmland, which bears the scars of colonisation, is forever changed but not untouchable, and not dead yet. Echoes of the past can still be found everywhere, if you know how to look. And just because what you hear is an echo, doesn't mean the source is dead.

Other works in the pipeline:
Hollowrend: A sci-fi fantasy about a planet full of floating rocks, swamp elves, and giant weevils. Oh, and the cave vampires. Can't forget the cave vampires.
Untitled: A fantasy cyberpunk setting where a supernatural pest controller notices that there's something... off about his apprentice. They're sick every full moon, they're depressed, and their apartment is a rat's nest, sans-rats! Main cast: The Boss, The Apprentice, The Receptionist, and The Pizza Guy.
Untitled: After his family perishes in a tragic accident, Bryan, the heir to the family farm, tries to run from his problems. On a broken leg, he won't get very far without his cat, his van, and his new travelling companion Naomi.
On the Way to Lamington: Uni students in Sydney gang together to survive a pandemic with a little more bite. My attempt at exploring an anti-fascist, anti-ableist zombie apocalypse story.
Untitled: A fantasy about a suburban mother struggling to manage her work-life-hero balance after acquiring magical powers and getting accosted by wizards to fulfill a "chosen one" quest.
